Born on the farm, living there his whole life, except twelve years, from 1874 to 1886, when he engaged in general merchandising at Cabery, Illinois. August, 1862, he enlisted in Civil War, Company C. Ninety-sixth Ill. Vol. Infantry, and served one year.
He has been Steward in the Methodist Episcopal Church many years.
Benjamin was listed in the book, Prominent Men of the Millburn Area from History of Lake County, 1902. Editor's Note: This book was published in 1902.
One of his brothers, Apollos Pitts Ames was also listed in the book.
