This generation, collectively, experienced the most tubulent and terrifying era in the history of this great nation. In their own way they played their role in World War II - helping to shape the world and stopping the tide of world domination by some of the histories greatest tyrants.
Robert Lawrence Cole served in the US Navy Dec 1942 - July 30, 1946.
In December 1942 Robert enlisted at the very young age of 17 years old to fight for a nation that he loved.
Robert began his four year journey by reporting to Cheyenne, Wyoming for his required physical. After his physical was passed he then was sent to Farragut, Idaho for six (6) weeks for something similar to "Boot Camp".
During Robert's time in the Navy the majority of his tour was spent on the LST230. In Early 1944 they crossed the Atlantic to England, picked up supplies preparing for the invasion of Normandy, France. On June 6, 1944 "D-Day" they landed on the beach of Normandy.
Because of all the brave men and women of this generation we have the freedom that we enjoy today.
During this war there was thousands and thousand of hero's but my Dad is my hero and will truly be missed.
