Beverly D. Evans, Jr. earned two degrees from Mercer University, studied law for two years at Yale University, and in 1884 was admitted to the Georgia bar. He served in the Georgia Legislature in 1888. In 1890-1897, he acted as solicitor general of the Middle Judicial Circuit of the George and was the judge of the same body 1899-1904. He became associate justice of the Georgia Supreme court in April 1904 and remained there until 1917, when he resigned to accept a federal judgeship.
