Please note that Ira started life with a surname of Blankenbeckler. The family story was that Ira told his children he got tired of spelling that long name and shortened it to Beckler. His cousins, the George Washington Blankenbeckler family shortened theirs to Blanken...but they all started out as Blankenbeckler from Smyth co. VA. Ira's father, William P. Beckler was the son of Aaron Blankenbecklera and his first wife, Keziah Williams, who was a descendant of Stephen Hopkins that came on the Mayflower.
