Giles was the only son of Bartholomew Badlesmere and Margaret de Clare, grandson of Guncelin Badlesmere, Sir Thomas de Clare and Juliana FitzMaurice. He was baptised at St. Andrew's Church, Hambleton, Rutland.
Giles married Lady Elizabeth Montagu, the daughter of daughter of William Montagu, 1st Earl of Salisbury and Catherine Grandison. They were married after February 1328, but produced no issue by the time he died, aged only twenty four.

His will dated 4 December 1337 was probated on 20 June 1338 at Lincoln, Lincolnshire. His estate included extensive holdings in London, Kent and Ireland and thirteen other counties, was distributed between his widow and four sisters, all of which had married well, but his title fell into abeyance.
