Robert W Clirehugh was born in New York City, and raised on Long Island in Westhampton Beach. He graduated from Fordham University 1934, participating in the ROTC program there. After a series of jobs and adventures, he moved to Santa Barbara, CA. He met his wife Virginia Joan MEYER, and they married in 1940 at Yuma, AZ. He joined the 144th Field Artillery, a unit of the California National Guard, and went on active Army duty in February 1941. He served in the European theatre during World War II.

On 5-8-1951 arrived on TWA in NY from Frankfurt, Germany; he was stationed at the Pentagon, Washington, DC.

On 7-10-1953 he, his wife, and three children arrived at Idlewild Air Base, NYC on an airplane from Rhein Main Air Base, Franfurt, Germany; Robert was Lt. Col.

In the late 50s, his family lived in Alexandria, Va, with children attending nearby Frances Hammond HS.

As a Colonel, he was the 188th Commandant of the Presidio in San Francisco (June 1963–August 1965).

In 1967 he retired to San Francisco, CA where he and his wife Virginia lived in Park Merced. Robert authored Part 2 of the Wiswall-Clirehugh Family, and A Journey Through Memory.

His wife Virginia passed away July 22, 1993.

Colonel Clirehugh died Wednesday, August 9th, 1995, at his San Francisco home. He was 82.
