Flight Officer Sumner was a co-pilot, and one
of six airmen killed when U.S. Army Air Corps
B-25C Mitchell #41-13247 failed to recover
from a spin and crashed near the community of
Falcon, Colorado, near Peterson Field.

The other crew members killed were:

2nd Lt. Richard P. Marx (pilot)
2nd Lt. Robert C. Markway
Flt. Of. Gordon F. Anderson
PFC Newell L. Cadwell
PFC F. H. Hansfield (name not verified)
