Clayton, the son of James and Florence Blaker Hansel, was born March 2, 1918, near Colesburg. He married Verla Sutton Hansel on June 2, 1944, in Manchester.


He worked 19 years as a custodian for the West Delaware School District before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manchester and Delaware County Farm Bureau.


Survivors include his wife, Verla of the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester; a son, Lyle (Karen) Hansel of Hobart, Ind.; two daughters, Mary (Tom) Mills of Burkburnett, Texas, and Ruth (John) Starr of Arlington, Texas; three grandchildren, Christin Mills (Aaron) Bunch, Anne Hansel (Sylvain) Allard and Sarah Mills; a sister, Mildred Daily of Colesburg; and a brother-in-law, Art Holthaus of Manchester.


He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harley Hansel.
