Calvin Lippard
November 2, 1923 - July 28, 2014

Calvin Lippard, 90, of Amarillo passed away on July 28, 2014.

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with Rev. Lane Boyd officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Calvin was born on November 2, 1923 in Montrose, CO. to John and Edna Lippard. He married Jo Ann Sneathen in Tulia in 1958. Calvin proudly served our country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp. He was an intelligence man and acting Scout Sergeant and participated in action on Kwjalein Atol; Saipan; Tinian and Iwo Jima. When communications were lost at his post on Iwo Jima, Calvin volunteered to serve as message runner and front observer to relay messages and accurately call down enemy positions for artillery defense. This was performed under extensive enemy artillery and mortar fire. Because of his bravery and devotion to duty, he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Calvin was a farmer and rancher for more than 50 years, in Bailey, Lamb, and Castro counties and was a member of the Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Farm Bureau. He was also instrumental in helping Cal Farley's Boys Ranch join in cooperation with the Running Water Soil and Water District. This agreement entitled the Boys Ranch to all technical services made available by the district and entitled them to use specialized conservation equipment then owned by the District. Because of his innovations and dedication to soil and water conservation, he was named Conservation Farmer of the Year, 1972, by the Southwest Conservation Districts of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Delmas and John Bryan Lippard; four sisters, Nancy Lou Salmon, Neva Mae Hedgecoke, Mildred Inez Weyandt, and Hazel Estelle Taylor.
Calvin is survived by his daughter, Dana Scott and husband, Sonny, of Amarillo; one brother, E. L. "Sam" Lippard, of Delta, CO; two grandsons, Daniel and Matthew Scott; one great grandson, Breckin Jace Scott and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas 79174-0001, BSA Hospice, c/o Don & Sybil Herrington Cancer Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd, Amarillo, Texas, 79106, or a favorite charity.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
