ERNST, GEORGE FORREST "ERNIE," 93, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Christopher East Nursing Home. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, was an avid golfer and an Army veteran who served during World War II. He was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Orphans Society, a member of In the Woods golf group and a St. X Alumnus. He was the proud owner of Ernst Farriers and was inducted into the International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame in 1992. He was also the official farrier for the World Championship Horse Show in Louisville from 1945 to 1978. Ernie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years Wilhelmina "Willie" Ernst; his parents Edward and Clara Ernst; a grandson Phillip Joseph Ernst; and a great-grandson Joshua Phillip Ernst. He is survived by two sons, Edward Phillip (Alice Lee) and Forrest Jude (Helen); a daughter, Mary Trevera Winter (Gregory); 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one brother, Jacob D. "Jack" Ernst. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the caring and loving staff at Christopher East Nursing Home. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Barnabas Church, 3042 Hikes Lane, with burial to follow in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-8p.m. at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Memorial gifts may be made to the Mass of the Air or to the Michael Quinlan Brain Tumor Foundation.
