Bertha R Folsom, daughter of Samuel C and Ann Elizabeth Damon Folsom was born in Wiscasset, Maine. Bertha was the seventh of eight children. In 1891 Bertha married Rev. Charles W Lowell, son of Charles and Mary Susan Wallace Lowell of Alna, Maine. Bertha and Charles had no natural born children, but they adopted Bertha's sisters child Wallace Fremont Fowle, who took his adopted name of Wallace Fremont Lowell. Bertha's sister, Edith Hallet Folsom, married Marshall Scott Fowle and together they had four children. When Edith died at 33 from acute appendicitis, her youngest child, Wallace was a year old. Bertha and Charles lovingly raised Wallace and were a great support for Marshall, and the children. Marshall died unexpectedly, five years after his wife. Between the Lowell's and the children's grandparents, Jackson and Abbie Fowle. the children were loved and cared for. RIP dearest Great Aunt, my Grandmother Leneda, your niece, always spoke lovingly of you.
