Vivian Dreadfulwater Gourd, of Lost City was born Tuesday, June 23, 1931 in Lost City to Wilson and Emily Keener Dreadfulwater and died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in Tahlequah at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 10 days.
She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family. She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, tending her gardens, canning the fruits of her labor, reading her Bible and loving her grandchildren! She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jonas R. Gourd on Dec. 26, 1986; son, Rudy Leon Gourd; grandsons, Russell R. Gourd and Eli R. Gourd; and her half brothers and sisters, Rufus Henson, Andrew Dreadfulwater, Joel Dreadfulwater, Willie Dreadfulwater, Cora Six and Goldie Smoke. She is survived by her sons, Steven Gourd of Lost City, Les and Kay Gourd of Tahlequah, James Gourd of Lost City, and Keith Gourd of Lost City; daughters Vera and Benny Newman of Irving, Texas, Pamela Gourd of Dallas, Texas, Frances and Richard Arredondo of Glen Heights, Texas, Tina Gourd of Tulsa, and Jennifer Gourd of Dallas, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010, in the Reed-Culver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. D.J. McCarter officiating. Burial will follow in the Keener Cemetery with Shannon Gourd, Daniel Gourd, Michael Gourd, Wilson Gourd, Joseph Gourd and Andrew Arredondo serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dondi Shade, Jonas Snow, Dustin Gourd, Grant Neguin, Berry Joe Neguin and Garrett Neguin.
