Born April 10, 1919 in the Biesecker Gap Road area of Washington Township, Franklin County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Carrie (Bonner) Bricker. She lived her early life in the Waynesboro area.
Mrs. Bailey attended the Gap school.
She and her husband, the late Edward W. Bailey, Sr., were married March 17, 1937 in Hagerstown, MD. They lived in Waynesboro from 1937 until 1958 when they moved to Chewsville, MD. In 1959, they moved to Hagerstown, MD until 1962 when they moved back to the Chewsville, MD area. In 1966 they moved back to Waynesboro, PA where they lived on Elder Avenue for 10 years before moving to their Wayne Highway residence. Mr. Bailey died August 31, 1973. She entered the nursing home on June 13, 2001.
Mrs. Bailey was employed as a housekeeper for the Waynesboro Hospital for over 17 years until her retirement in 1984. Following her retirement, she worked as a volunteer for the hospital from 1984-1997.
Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Waynesboro Bible Church where she sang in the choir, helped with Vacation Bible School and church camps, Camp Tohiglo and Camp Joy El.
She enjoyed singing, cleaning, cooking, crocheting, and sewing gifts for her friends, and she loved the Lord Jesus Christ.
She is survived by two daughters, Constance G. Bell of Falling Waters, WV and Faye J. Benchoff of Waynesboro, PA; one son, Edward W. Bailey, Jr. of Waynesboro; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Eleanor Rowe of Waynesboro and Sylvia Wagaman of Fayetteville, PA; three brothers, Carroll Tracey, Arnold "Jack" Bricker, and Monroe Bricker, all of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, June E. Bricker, Alberta Whitlock, and Marie Barkdoll; and four brothers, Leo Bricker, Lawrence Bricker, Lester Bricker, Daniel Bricker.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 29, 2002 in Waynesboro Bible Church, 8216 Stottlemyer Road, Waynesboro, PA, with Pastors Robert L. Fitz and Carroll Churchey officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 P.M., Wednesday evening in the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, PA and one hour before the services in the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Quincy United Methodist Home, Benevolent Care Fund, P.O. Box 128, Quincy PA 17247.
