COLE, Cecil Marion, minister of the Gospel for 73 years, loving husband and father, soldier, inventor, teacher and farmer, died at home on Monday, Feb. 22, 2010. He was born on March 30, 1918, at home between the Broadview and Harmony Communities in western Franklin County, TN, to Raymond Athol Cole, son of Allen Tribble Cole and Musadora Caroline Franklin and Mary Lucille McCoy, daughter of General Marion McCoy and Cora Lee Gray. Husband of Shirley Marie Jackson of Detroit, MI, they married on March 15, 1952, at Peoria, IL. He graduated from Huntland High School in Huntland, in 1936. He attended Bob Jones College, Cleveland, TN and Texas A & M, College Station, TX. Mr. Cole served his country in the U.S. Army in the Hawaiian Islands and in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Atlantic Theatre. In Italy at the time of the surrender; crossed the Atlantic Ocean 13 times during the war to participate in campaigns in France, Belgium, North Africa, Italy. He preached his first sermon at a gospel meeting in the Walnut Grove community in Franklin County. He preached at every Church of Christ in Franklin County and at most churches in adjacent counties as well as throughout the United States and in most of Canadian provinces. He conducted singing and song leading classes; taught seminars and workshops on evangelism; coordinated community campaigns; taught home Bible studies; held gospel meetings; taught Bible classes; spoke on the radio; worked with church youth and the Franklin County-Wide Youth Bible Quiz Program for many years. His accomplishments in life were many, but the focus of his life was the Lord's church and its mission. His dying wish was to preach one more sermon, which he had prepared and studied for several months, always hoping he would be well enough to preach it. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Jewel Oween Cole and Hulda Lee Cole (Billy) Lynch. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Shirley Marie Jackson Cole of Winchester; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Cole of Winchester and Janie Louise Cole (Danny) Hunt of Dickson, TN; a sister, Clara Mildred Cole (Michael) O'Brien of Oxford, GA; and two grandchildren, Cynthia Lynn Hunt of York, Neb. and April Rene Hunt (David) Wallace of Waverly, TN. Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Winchester Church of Christ in Winchester. Interment will be in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens in Nashville.
