Phoebe survived her husband and died in 1912 in Arkansas. Her daughter purchased lumber at a lumber yard and had her remains shipped back to St Louis for burial.

Byers Family - All Buried in the Old Part, Lots 57 and 58.
During the period of September 3 - November 2, six of Joseph and Phoebe Byers children died from diptheria. The family lived on a farm nothwest of Saint Louis. All of these children plus several other children were also buried on the farm. Later they were interred into Oak Grove Cemetery. There was one child's body they could not locate. Story goes that it is possibly Phoebe who is listed with no burial or death dates. (according to census records, Phoebe was the wife and not a child and was still living after 1900 cenus and her death was before her husband Joseph as his death certificate shows he was a widow.) Since there is no information to be found on an infant child the name of Olive Byers, this might be the child that could not be located as cemetery records show no date of birth or death for her. Only one child grew to adulthood which was Emma J. Byers born in 1874 and died in 1954. The father, after several years, became so distraught that he committed suicide by hanging himself on December 16, 1906. The year before his death, his son Allen J. Byers (1883-1905) died by hanging.

1900 census Coe, Isabella Co., MI show that Joseph and Phebe married in 1863 and were married 37 years. Phebe was the mother of 10 children, 2 living which would have Been Allen J. and Emma J. Byers as shown below.

Emma J. Byers age 25
Allen J. Byers, age 16
