Plano, Texas -- Carolyn J. Bushong of Lucas died Friday at Medical City Dallas. She has been in poor health for several years and had recently been in the hospital for three weeks.

Carolyn was born March 13, 1930, in Kosciusko County, Indiana, the daughter of Elmer R. and Bernice (Weimer) Baugher of Syracuse, Indiana. On June 19, 1955 she married Merton Bushong in North Webster, Indiana.

Mr. and Mrs. Bushong attended all 12 years of grade school and high school together in Syracuse, Indiana. Mrs. Bushong graduated from Ball State Teachers College with a degree in Music. She received her masters in education from East Texas State University in Commerce. She taught school in Penn Township, Mishawaka, and Milford, Indiana before moving with her family to Texas in 1961. She taught elementary grades at Lovejoy ISD in Lucas/Fairview for 18 years, and also gave piano lessons. She was well known for her piano skills and played regularly at numerous churches wherever the family lived. In later years she played regularly at several area nursing homes for the enjoyment of the residents.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mrs. Robert O. (Olive) Bowser; and two brothers, Ray, who died before Carolyn was born, and Wallace W. (Katherine Kern).

She is survived by her husband of 48 years; daughter, Liz of Lucas, Texas; and four sons, Dr. Philip M. Bushong of King George, Virginia; Navy Capt. Paul J. Bushong and wife, Dona (Rodenbaugh) of Guam; Thomas R. Bushong and wife, Jannett (Folks) of Norman, Oklahoma, and Army CWO Benjamin P. Bushong and wife Vanessa (Dimick) of Clarksville, Tennessee; a sister, Betty (Robert) Haines of North Webster, Indiana and six grandchildren, Kyle, Jacob, Rachel, Cassandra, Sarah and Ellyce.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at the Plano Bible Chapel, 1900 Shiloh Road in Plano. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Tuesday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
