Civil War Union Army Officer, Son of Admiral John Dahlgren. He participated in an ill-fated Cavalry raid on Richmond, in which he was killed. Papers found on him indicated that he had orders to assassinate Confederate President Jefferson Davis. These papers were published in newspapers, and created enormous controversy for the Lincoln government.
