Emma H. Darr, 84, formally of Fergus Falls, died May 25, 2001, of natural causes in her apartment at an assisted living residence in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 1, 2001, at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Elbow Lake, with the Rev. Dan Cole officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls.
Mrs. Darr was born July 23, 1916, in Washburn, North Dakota, to Peter and Margaret (Bittner) Hoff. Mrs. Darr grew up on a farm in rural Washburn and was educated in the Washburn Public Schools. She married John Kurt Darr in 1934, in Appleton, Minnesota. Their first home was in Washburn, North Dakota. They moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota, in 1940, where Kurt became co-owner and co-operator of the Highway Greenhouse. Mrs. Darr worked in the floral shop designing corsages, sprays, etc. for eight years. She, then, worked in the Modern Laundry which Kurt owned and operated for two years. In 1950, the Darr family moved to Wahpeton, North Dakota, and resided there until Kurt retired from the Ottertail Power Company in 1968. They traveled together extensively in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America; wintered in McAllen, Texas; and spent the summers in the Fergus Falls area. Mrs. Darr was active in the Wahpeton Girl Scout Council as treasurer, and held various offices in the Wahpeton Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She was active in the choirs and ladies' circles at the churches of which they were members.
She is survived by two sisters, Esther of Battle Lake, Minnesota, and Freida of Turtle Lake, North Dakota; two brothers, Emil of rural Washburn, North Dakota, and Art of Bismarck, North Dakota; one daughter, Erna (Wayne) Haring of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one son, Kurt (Anne) of McLean, Virginia; three grandsons: Jeffrey (Cheryl) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; James (Karen) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jonathan of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and four great-grandchildren: Julie and Matthew of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Erika and Cameron of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Kurt; and a brother, Albert.
