George Washington Teel was a member of the Old Three Hundred, was born in Maryland on May 4, 1784. . He was married to Nancy Caldwell and had one child, Rachael.
Nancy died near Little Rock and he married Rebecca Johnson. In which they had 4 children.
He entered into Texas with the Stephen F. Austin colony in 1824, and on August 3, 1824, received title to a Spanish site of land in what is now Fort Bend County.
By December 22, 1824, Teel was in San Felipe, where he participated in the election, and by the fall of 1828 he was in the Ayish Bayou District, where he settled six miles west of what is now San Augustine. Sometime in the late 1820s he established a cotton gin in the vicinity of San Augustine.
Teel fought in the battle of Nacogdoches, August 1–3, 1832, and was enrolled in Capt. William Kimbrough's company in the summer of 1836.
Teel became a successful farmer and landowner. He took an active part in the early Methodist movement in the newly formed San Augustine Municipality. . He was selected as one of the fifteen trustees to form the board of the University of San Augustine. In 1838 the Jerusalem Memorial Colored (later Christian) Methodist Episcopal Church was built on a town lot belonging to George W. Teel.

George W. Teel had a brother named Edward that resided in San Augustine County TX that died in 1858. Edward had a son named Henry Teal/Teel that was a Captain stationed at Camp Independence(Jackson County TX) that was assassinated as he slept in his tent the night of May 5, 1837.
George Teel and his wife Rebecca were buried in the family cemetery near their homesite.
George And Rebecca Teel were married around 1823. They had the following children; (The first child was not Rebecca's, George first marriage)
*Rachael Teel Palmer - b.abt 1815 in TN, d.Mar 5,1900 near Alvin TX; married Thomas Henry Palmer b.1805, Dickson Co. TN, died May 4, 1875, Dallas TX, married in TX in 1834.

Wyatt Teel married Margaret Jane POLK (daughter of Benjamin F.Polk & Margaret R. Moore Polk and sister of Lucius B. Polk all of San Augustine TX.
Wyatt and Jane Polk Teel and son Edward are buried along the side of his parents , George & Rebecca Teel.
In the early 1990's all that remained of the Teel family cemetery was parts of five broken monuments piled under a nearby tree.
