Born in Gwinnett County, Georgia, on Wednesday, 15 March 1820, Green Tilman McGuire, Sr., was a son of David McGuire and Susan/Susannah LNU and a grandson of Thompson McGuire and Frances Tyner and a great-grandson of Revolutionary War Soldier, Richard Tyner, Sr.

On Thursday, 14 December 1848, Green Tilman McGuire, Sr., was twenty-eight when he was married by Justice of the Peace, John James, to nineteen year old Mary Catherine Thomason, in Campbell County (now Fulton County), Georgia. Mary Catherine Thomason was the daughter of William M. Thomason, Jr., and his first wife, Delilah Petty.

The McGuires had thirteen children.

On 21 August 1862, Green was discharged by civil authority.

Known as Campbell County Guards or Campbellton Home Guards.
Green fought at Gettysburg, the deadliest, bloodiest, battle of the War Between the States and lost his hearing as a result of a shell exploding at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on Friday, 03 July 1863.


Green was a farmer and a gunsmith and was appointed a Post Master on Thursday, 11 December, 1879, for the Holland Gold Mine in Haralson County, Georgia. This Post Office was discontinued on 08 February 1880.

Green died on Sunday, 04 September 1898, in Paulding County, Georgia, at the age of seventy-eight. He is buried in the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Paulding County, Georgia.
