Monticello Man Thought to Have Been a Suicide
Son of Hon. G. Wood Magee Supposed to Have Taken Poison Dose
Noel Atwood Magee, 21, of Monticello died at about ten oclock Sunday night, supposedly from the effects of drinking an ounce of carbolic acid, the bottle which had contained the drug being found under the mattress when the body was being prepared for burial.
Mr. Magee was the son of Hon. and Mrs. G. Wood Magee, who have been residents of Monticello for the past thirty years, Mr. Magee being present county attorney and attorney for the board of supervisors of Lawrence County and well known all over South Mississippi.
No motive is known for the supposed suicide, and no message or any other reason for the act has been found.
Besides the parents deceased is survived by three brothers, Geo. N., Edinburgh, Tex.; S. S. and Shirley of Monticello; four sisters, Mrs. C. L. Fortenberry, Jackson; Mrs. P. H. Brasfield, McComb; Mrs. O. S. Temple, Jr., of Yazoo City, and Miss Annie Mary Magee, a senior in the Monticello High School. He was a nephew of Mr. E. S. Fairman, prominent business man of Monticello. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Young Magee had charge of the management of his fathers farm and dairy near Monticello.
The funeral services were held at the residence of his parents on Tuesday morning at ten oclock with Rev. A. W. Duck of Wesson conducting the ceremonies.
F. H. Hartman, funeral director of Brookhaven, had charge of the arrangements.
