---George W. Barnes of Atlanta, died at Grim-Smith Hospital at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the age of eighty-one. Ill several months, Barnes had been in the hospital since Friday.
---Barnes was married to Louisa Catherine Warren on June 27, 1900. to this union were born seven children; Otha Barnes of Oakland, Oregon, Mrs. Carl Stockham of Edina, Mrs. Theodore Johnston of Silver Springs, Maryland, Mrs. David Miller of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Ord Barnes of De Soto, Kansas; a son, Alva, who died at the age of two and a daughter who died in infancy.
---He is survived by his wife; two sons; three daughters; three grandchildren, two daughters-in-law and two half-sisters, Mrs. Dee Daniels of Poplar Bluff and Mrs. Roy Warren of Elmer.
---The son of James and Ollie Barnes, he was born near Queen City on November 30, 1874. He and his family lived several years on a farm near Gibbs and he was a member of the Prairie Bird United Brethren Church there.
---The move to their present home in Atlanta about thirty-one years ago.
---Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Atlanta Christian Chruch by Rev. Claude Thompson. Burial was in the Gibbs Cemetery.

NOTE: His death certificate gives his father as F. A. Barnes while his obituary states that he was the son of James Newton Barnes (1843-1913) and his mother was, Olive Ann (Barnes) Barnes (1852-1878).
