Marine Lance Cpl Peak was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was killed when he stepped on an improvised explosive device while patrolling outside the perimeter of his base. Adam was a 2002 graduate of Boone County High School and Thomas More College in 2007. While in college, he joined the Alpha Delta Gamma National Fraternity Rho Chapter and was active in the Saints Club, Computer Club, Education Club and the theatre group called The Villa Players. In July 2007, he joined the Marines and never regretted his decision. Even though Adam and his younger brother Sean were total opposites, they shared a bond that usually only twins feel. Both boys were in the Marines and deployed together in the same unit to Iraq in 2008, and in October 2009 they both left for Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and NATO International Security Assistance Force Medal. Family and friends hold dear the memories of Adam's sense of humor, quick wit, free spirit and willingness to help others. But they also chuckle remembering his sarcasm that he could turn on.
