Harrison Barritt Dies at 59
Harrison Herbert Barritt, well known farmer and residing south of El Dorado Springs on Route 3, died early Monday morning at 12:25 o'clock at the Nevada hospital after a short critical illness. He was taken to the hospital last Thursday for treatment.
Mr. Barritt, highly esteemed citizen and a widely known and successful farmer, was born in Mercer County, MO, Aug 26, 1888, and was the son of James and Janie Barritt. He was married Sept. 23, 1908, to Myrtle Tudor of this vicinity, and the were the parents of seven children, five sons and two daughters. Two sons preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, Mrs. Myrtle Barritt, of the home; five children, Lloyd Barritt, Olen Barritt, Lawrence Barritt, Mrs. Lorene Hartline and Mrs. Belva Eslinger, and ten grandchildren, all of El Dorado Springs. Also surviving are four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Anna McClain and Mrs. Alice McClain, of Gainesville, MO, Mrs. Daisy Bubenser, Chillicothe, MO; Mrs. Pearl Burrus, El Dorado Springs; Millard Barritt, St. Maries, ID, and Jesse Barritt of El Dorado Springs.
He became a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist church early in life, remaining a faithful and active member until his death. He spent the greater part of his life in and around El Dorado Springs, where he enjoyed the fellowship of all who knew him.
Services for Mr. Barritt were held at the Baptist church in El Dorado Springs Tuesday afternoon at 8 o'clock, Rev. W. F. Pace officiating.
The services, scheduled to be held at the Gwinn-Carothers chapel, were transferred to the church due to the fact that Main street in front of the funeral home and a block north was clogged with cars and fire-fighting equipment while the H. B. Davis building was burning at that hour. Following the service at the church burial was in the Clintonville cemetery a short distance south of this city.
