Mr. Goodrum, son of Ben Franklin Goodrum and Mary Robinson Goodrum, and a direct descendant of Barton Clark, Mexican land Grant Pioneer of 1838, was engaged in many businesses here such as, cafe, market, livery stable which rented buggies for travel to outlying communities, farming and owner of Lovelady Horse and Mule Barn. He made semi-annual trips to Ft. Worth and Brownwood to purchase train car loads of animals to sell in this area - which was a active business since all this area was farming. even though he did this as a side line, his main business and first love was cattle ranching which he pursued until his death in 1935. He wore cowboy boots and "ten gallon' hats always. He served as County Commissioner for one term, having defeated two opponents without a run-off buy declined to be a candidate again due to health and pressing private business. He was a kind, considerate man of his family and friends, who was always responsive to the needs of those he considered less fortunate than himself.
