Violet was the oldest daughter of Emmet McClure "Clure" Bowser and Bessie Ella Sloniger. She had eleven siblings. On December 31, 1931, she married Kenneth Emmet Smith in Kittanning. They were the parents of a son and daughter and grandparents of seven. Violet lived most of her life in North Buffalo Township.
