Elmira Area Farmer Dies

ELMIRA - Thomas Knox Bown, a lifelong resident of Elmira, died Sunday at a Eugene hospital. He was 74.

Mr. Bown was born March 15, 1886, at the farm home of his parents, John and Antoinette Bown, who moved to Washington from Iowa in 1881 by train, and a short time late moved to the farm two and one-half miles northwest of Elmira on Sheffler Road. The farm, a part of the Babcock Donation Land Claim, was Mr. Bown's home all his life.

He was a member of the Elmira High School Board during the late twenties and early thirties, and served as school clerk for the Fir Grove School, north of Elmira, about 30 years ago.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Emma Taylor Bown, whom he married May 28, 1913, at Eugene; two sons: John E. Bown of Eugene, and Thomas Alton Bown of Corvallis; one daughter, Mrs. Holley Whitaker of Elmira; 7 grandchildren; 3 grand-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are pending.
