Melesia Gonzales, 86, Gallina, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Porfirio Gonzales; parents, Adolfo and Sarita Valdez; infant son, Herman Gonzales; son, Bonifacio Gonzales; two grandchildren two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gonzales was a foster grandmother for over 20 years with the schools and was also a cook for the Gallina schools. She loved to crochet, gardening, flowers and making bread and tortillas.
She is survived by her children, Benicio Gonzales, Gallina; Jose Gonzales, Farmington; Martha Serrano, Tierra Azul; Lala Martinez, Española, Doris Martinez, Hernandez; Beatrice Gonzales, Alcalde and JoAnn Gonzales, Arizona; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
A rosary was recited Feb. 11 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. A second rosary was recited Feb. 12 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gallina. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Feb. 13 also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gallina. Burial followed at the Capulin Catholic Cemetery in Gallina with the following serving as pallbearers, Jody Gonzales, Jason Martinez, Gilbert Martinez, Paul Jaramillo, Levi Gonzales, Filimon Lovato, Mike Cordova, Ernesto Gallegos and Evan Jaramillo.
