Mary Erwin Lively McChesney was the daughter of Rev. Lewis Preston Lively and Amanda Elizabeth Erwin Lively of Arkansas and Texas. She married Vernon Twiggs McChesney in 1877. He died in 1888 leaving Mary and four children to raise. Mary was a charming woman of strong character and a devoted mother to her children.
She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hallie May Hamel in El Paso, Texas, at the age of 86 on Oct. 16, 1942 of acute myocarditis and arterial sclerosis.
She is survived by her son, Louis Preston McChesney, daughter, Mrs. Hallie Hamel, and daughter, Bonnie Merrill and many grandchilddren who brought great joy to her later years.
