A picnic and a dance were given last night at Lakeside Park by Miss Marie Davey for her guest, Miss Florence Boyce of Brooklyn. The invited guests were:

Miss Armilda McReynolds is in Illinois for a visit with friends and relatives at several different points. Before returning she will attend the commencement week festivities of Monticello Seminary, her alma mater, in Godfrey, Ill.

MISS ARMILDA McREYNOLDS DIES

Miss Armilda McReynolds, widely known Carthage woman and member of a prominent pioneer Carthage family, died suddenly at 11:20 last night


In failing health he last two years as a result of an asthmatic condition, Miss McReynolds had been more serious in recent months and at various times had been a patient in McCune-Brooks hospital. Since her last dismissal from the hospital on October 13 she had been up and had attended various meetings. Last night she had a sudden and fatal asthmatic attack.

Miss McReynolds was born February 4, 1881 in Carthage. Her father, Samuel McReynolds was an early day lawyer here. He was president of the Carthage Hospital association and was instrumental in the raising of the funds and construction of McCune-Brooks hospital,[ built by Busboom Brothers Construction company, being Geo & Frank Busboom, formerly Fairbury, Nebraska, then of Carthage]. He also served as president of the board.

Her mother, the former Miss Helen Mar Halliburton also was of a prominent early day family of this district, and as a young woman was a teacher in the Kirksville Teachers College.

The McReynolds family home was at 631 South McGregor, where Miss McReynolds passed away.

Armilda McReynolds was graduated from Carthage High School and later from Monticello College, Godfrey, Illinois.

***LEADER IN CHURCH, CIVIC AFFAIRS***
Miss McReynolds was a communicant of Grace Episcopal church. She was a charter member of St. Margaret's Altar Guild and one of the leaders in the Woman's Auxiliary, both of Grace Church. She also took a prominent part in auxiliary work of the Diocese of West Missouri.

She was one of the leaders in the organization of the YWCA in Carthage in the early 1920's and was prominent in its activities, serving as a member of the board of directors and assisting in various other capacities during it's existence.

In addition to her church activities, Miss McReynolds in the last 10 years had been actively associated with Beta Sigma Phi, international business women's sorority. She was appointed by the representative from the international office of Beta Sigma Phi as the first sponsor of Gamma Epsilon chapter which was organized here in May, 1944.

While visiting a niece, Mrs. George Rozier, in Jeffereson City who was a member in of the state library board, Miss McReynolds learned of the great need for bookmobiles in Missouri. She returned to Carthage and presented the idea of sponsoring a campaign among Beta Sigma Phi's in Missouri to raise funds to purchase a bookmobile. The fund campaign was launched in 1946 and in 1948 the bookmobile was presented to the state. The local chapter sponsored the raising of the necessary $2,000. purchase price of the bookmobile. Miss McReynolds was sponsor of Gamma Epsilon Chapter at the time of her death and also was a member of XI Alpha Alpha Exemplar Chapter, which was organized here in 1951.

She was a great inspiration to member of the two organizations.

**TWO BROTHERS ARRIVE**
Surviving Miss McReynolds are two brothers, Attorney Allen McReynolds of Carthage, and Samuel McReynolds of route 2. Allen McReynolds Jr., Samuel McReynolds III of Carthage and Mrs. George Rozier of Jefferson City are nephews and niece, and Mrs. G. Everett Hough and Miss Louise Halliburton of Carthage are cousins. An aunt, Mrs. Ida Kimmel of Kansas City also survives.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Grace Episcopal Church. The Rev. Eugene Malcolm, rector, will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
