He was born in Germany, January 6, 1852, and lived in the Sixteenth Ward for thirty-five years and was employed in the Havermeyer & Elder Sugar Refinery. He was a member of the Knights of Honor and the Deutscher Scheutzenbund, and leaves his widow, Marie Wendland Hellmer, two sons, Reinhold and William, and five daughters, Mrs. James Kennedy, Mrs. Frank K. Reed, Mrs. John Foley, Mrs. John Paul and Miss Julia.
