"James Lewis Cantrell was born November 10, 1860, at Gum Springs, Ky., and passed away at his home near Clearwater, Kas., Friday morning, November 13, 1936, at the age of 76 years and 3 days.
At the age of 16, he was baptized into the Christian religion and united with the Baptist Church and remained a devoted member through out his life.
He was admitted to the bar in 1884 and practiced law until his health forced him to retire. He was united in marriage to Mattie E. Williams on August 16, 1885. To this union eight children born: Archie L. who gave his life during the World War; Wm. of Woodward, Okla.; P.M., Wellington, Thomas C., Wichita; Richard M., Conway Springs; Mrs. Kathleen McMillian, Topeka; Mrs. Hilda Wright, Saint Paris, Ohio, and Mrs. Mary Butler of Wellington, who with his devoted wife and eleven grandchildren survive. He also leaves one sister, Mary Hudgins, Hodgenville, Ky., and one brother, Alvin Cantrell, Magnolia, Ky.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Frank Funeral Home with Rev. M.W. Williams, Corbin, officiating. Singers were E.B Seaton, H.P. Beckwith, Glenn O. Miller, Glenn Shofner and Mrs. W.H. Cortelyou, accompanist. Selections were "The Old Rugged Cross', "Beautiful Land," "Nearer My God To Thee."
Pallbearers were Sterl Sparr, Lloyd Light, Earl Light, Will Hammers, Fred Popp, and Clare Lindley. Burial was made in Praire Lawn Cemetery."
