Edward was the son of William Willis "Willie" Hall I and Elizabeth Halbert.

Edward grew up during the bloody" Indian Border Wars" which prepared him for his journey to the paradise and dangers of Kentucky. He was 22 years old when he ventured to Kentucky from Virginia.

Edward served 4 years in the Revolutionary War. He stated in his pension statement that "he came to Kentucky in April of 1779.

He and his brother Thomas Hall took oath of office from Col. Richard Calloway in the Spring of 1779. They served under John Holder, Benjamin Logan, and George Rogers Clark. His brother William Hall II was killed during the Revolutionary War. He died at Boonesbrough in 1779.

On April 15, 1779 the Association of Settlers of Boonesborough included names of Edward, Thomas, amd William Hall.

September 5, 1786, at age of 28, Edward married Amelia Milly Garrett. The ceremony was performed by Parson Andrew Trimble, a Baptist minister.

Milly and Edward had 7 children (Elizabeth, James, Jesse, Martha J. Patsy, Garrett, Thomas, Martin, and Bryant Hall.
