Officer Soulliere was shot and killed and his partner was seriously wounded when they interrupted a service station holdup. The officers returned fire and killed one of three suspects. The other two were captured minutes later and charged with murder.
Murder charges were dismissed against the other two suspects when it was discovered that they were not associated with the suspect who was killed and they did not fire their weapons. It was also discovered that they did not even know the suspect that was killed. They were still charged with armed robbery. Ironically they attempted to rob the service station at the same moment the other suspect did.
