Born in Kokomo on Sept. 24, 1909, he was the son of Frederick and Jeanette (McCartney) Cowgill. He was married in 1939 to Bernice Hobson, who died in 1948. He later married Betty Stephens, who survives.
He was retired from the Kokomo Center Township Consolidated School Corp., where he had worked in the maintenance department, and currently was employed by Pinkerton Detective Agency. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.
Other survivors include four daughters, Sharon Fleissner and Clar Adele Coy, Noblesville, Barbara Porter, Bringhurst, and Betty Cowgill, at home; a half sister, Freida Wheeler, Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
