Halvor emigrated from Norway via Christiana to New York on or about March 18, 1891 on board S.S. Umbria, Cunard Line. He came first, then Kari and children came in September.
Halvor and family were naturalized March 24, 1910 while living in Wing River Township, Wadena Co., MN.

BLUE GRASS. Funeral Services were held at the Bethany Lutheran church at Blue Grass Monday for Halvor Westby who passed away at his home Wednesday evening following a lingering illness from a heart ailment.
Mr. Westby was born at Trysil, Norway, December 6, 1861, was baptized, confirmed and married in the same church. He was married to Carrie Jonsen in 1883 and came with his family to America in 1891 settling in Wiota, Wis., where they lived for five years. In 1896 they moved to Wadena county, where they have since lived.
To this union twelve children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Surviving with his wife are Theodore of Seattle, WA, Mrs. Martin Olson of Effie. Mrs. T. Grottie of Scoby, MT, Henry of Nevis, Mrs. Hjalmer Lundberg of International Falls, Ingwald of Sebeka, Mrs. Albert Kautz of Wadena, Mrs. Herman Jordahl of Verndale and Hjalmer and Clifford at home. Twenty-eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs Eli Jenson of Rainy River, Canada also survive.
He was a faithful worker of the Bethany church of which he was a charter member.
Rev. P. K. L. Bueide of Fergus Falls officiated and interment was made in the parish cemetery.
Pall bearers were Herbert and A. E. Johnson, Herman Hanson, Ernest Thompson, John Olson and M. E. Forsberg.
Those coming from a distance were Mrs. Eli Jenson and son of Rainy River, Canada, Mrs. Hilda Erickson and Mr. and Mrs. Helge Larson of Northome. Mr. and Mrs. Obed and Leonard Olson of Marble Minn., Mrs. Gina Steen and daughters, Ruth and Doris of Alexandria, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Spurlin and baby and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Westby of Nevis, Mrs. T. Grotte of Scoby, Mont., Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmer Lundberg of International Falls and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Olson of Effie.
