John J. Koehn, 86, of 503 Niagara Ave., died this morning at Rocky Knoll Extended Care Center, where he had been for the past two months. Born Oct. 2, 1886, at Harrison (Calumet County), he was a son of the late Frank and Mary Koehn. He came to Sheboygan in 1926. His marriage to the former Estelle Thole took place in Milwaukee on July 7, 1914. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1954.
Mr. Koehn was the proprietor of the former Idle Hour Movie Theater until 1930. For 17 years until his retirement in 1956, he was the painting foreman at St. Nicholas Hospital. Prior to that he was a painting contractor. Mr. Koehn was a member of St. Clement Catholic Parish, its Holy Name Society, Painters Union and a member and past president of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 0277.
He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Joyce) Butzen of Sheboygan, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were three brothers and a sister.
The funeral mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Clement Church, with Msgr. Vernon J. Kuehn, pastor, celebrant. Brief family rites at Gerend-Habermann Funeral Home at 9 a.m. will precede the mass. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday, where a parish service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial services conducted by the Fraternal Order of Eagles will follow at 7:30.
