Morton Rites Set.
Joy S. Morton, 74, 1310 N. Fifth St., a retired service station owner, died Friday evening at the Ponca City hospital.
He was born Dec. 7, 1896, at Cheney, Neb., to John C. Morton and Ellen Talbot Morton. He came to Arkansas City with his family at the age of four. He was married to Mary Jacobson Jan. 2, 1916, in Arkansas City, and they made their home here. He had owned and operated Joy's Texaco Service Station south of Arkansas City before retiring in 1956.
Survivors include his widow of the home, four daughters, Mrs. Louis (Violet) Hatfield of 1313 South M. St., Mrs. John D. (Viola) Miller of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Emil (Velma) Barondeau of 211 North C St., and Mrs. Frank W. (Dolores) Hylton of Wichita, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery. He will lie in state from 6 p.m. today until noon Monday. The casket will remain closed at the service.
