Miss Bowen was a resident of Golden Age nursing home and spent most of her life in a wheel chair, disabled by arthritis. However, Miss Bowen's large circle of friends were remembered on birthdays and other special occasions with special notes and telephone calls. Miss Bowen retained a cheerful outlook on life and was an inspiration to friends.
She was a charter member of Memorial Christian Church.
Miss Grace Bowen was born in Young County, Texas in a log house in the Ming Bend Community, on the Frank Herron Farm. In 1899, the Bowen family moved to the Brad community in Palo Pinto where she spent 1/3 of her life. The only church in the community was Methodist and people of all faiths attended the servcies held on the second Sunday of the month. The circult riding minister lived in Eliasville. There was no organ at that time and the song leader used a tuning fork, and all enjoyed. Grace Bowen graduated from Graham High School in 1918. The family lived near James George Bump until they moved to Graham in 1920. She was an accomplished student of music but was unable to continue to play the piano after arthritis struck at the age of 18 years.
