Elma Violet (Olson) Blumeyer, daughter of Andrew and Minnie (Wirta) Olson, was born June 2, 1916, on a farm in Brookings County, South Dakota. She grew up on the family farm and was united in marriage to Carl Blumeyer on January 16, 1944 in Los Angeles, California. They farmed in Hamlin County, southwest of Estelline until moving into Estelline in 1977. Carl died on August 23, 1980 and she continued to live in Estelline until moving to Brookings in 2008. Elma died on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 22 days.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in ladies aid and also did quilting. She was also a member of the Sr. Citizens and the Lucky 13 Extension Club. Elma enjoyed traveling and reading.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Carla Ries and her husband Warren of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Matt Ries and his wife Amy of Sioux Falls and Renae Sussman and her husband Danny of Robbinsdale, MN; three great grandchildren, Crosby, Sophia and Eliza Ries of Sioux Falls; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Elma was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents, one sister and one brother.
