On March 26, 1922, Arthur was home sitting with his dog. Suddenly he heard a loud popping noise and rushed up stairs to the attic to investigate. His dog followed close by his heels. It was a fire, and when he opened the door they were both rapidly drawn into the room. Both Arthur and his dog burned to death. The house, former home of his wife's parents, was completely destroyed.
