Glad news reached the Glenn Adamson home Saturday morning, when a telegram came saying Mrs. Jennie V. Drake of LaSalle, Illinois, would be July 6, 1932 (typed as written in newspaper), at 5 P.M. when the (typed as written) But when the train pulled in it was a shock to find the undertaker there to meet Mrs. Drake also.
The undertaker at LaSalle had failed to add in the telegram that Mrs. Drake was bringing the body of her son Walter, a victim of the Cofferdam collapse in LaSalle, Ills.

After working for the Bates & Rogers Construction Company of Chicago since May, 1930, Walter E. Drake of LaSalle, Illinois, formerly of Superior, met his death instantly July 6, 1932, at 5 P.M. wheen (sic) the cofferdam he was working on with eight other men, suddenly collapsed, killing the four men working on the top of the dam. The dam had buckled at the top and with such force that the four men on the top were sucked down through the timbers, killing them instantly. The five men working at the bottom of the dam were rescued by fellow workmen as they came to the surface.
The bodies of the victims were fund (sic) at different intervals during the night, except Mr. Drake who was not found until an Evanston diver arrived Thursday Morning (sic). He located the body five mintues after entering the water.
Walter Edward Drake, son of E.A. and Jennie V. Drake, was born August 31, 1900, at Dorchester, Saline county (sic), Nebraska, and was killed July 6, 1932, at LaSalle, Illinois, while working on construction work in the Illinois river (sic).
In 1906 the family moved to Superior, Nebr., where Walter entered the city schools, completing his schooling there, anl (sic) ranking high in Manual Training. They then moved onto the farm near Webber, Kansas, and at that place the youngest brother, Warren 11 years old, was kicked by a horse and killed.
Later at Deshler the father passed away on March 13, 1926. Since that time Walter has cared for his mother, lifting her burdens and cheering her life in every way, as few boys take time to do.
The body was brought to Superior Saturday evening, July 9th, for burial. The funeral services were from the Mullet funeral parlor in Superior, and the remains taken to Webber for burial beside his father and brother.
He leaves to mourn his going, his mother, Mrs. Jennie V. Drake, a sister, Mrs. Hazel Snorgrass and family of Versailles, Mo.; and two brothers, Russell A. and family of Los Angeles, California, and Kenneth L. and family of The Coast Guards of Norfolk, Virginia; also many other relatives and friends.
