Joseph Robinson Beddes was the son of James Seth Beddes and Alice Ruth (Booth) Beddes, both natives of England. He married Eliza Eleanor Ricks on November 6, 1897 in Victor, Teton County, Idaho. They had nine daughters sandwiched between two sons.

Two of their daughters: Elsie Beddes and Rhea Priscilla (Beddes) Schooler.
