Peter J. Leander, 86, Dies At Elk
Horn Home

Peter J. Leander, 86, longtime resident of the vicinity, died at 3:40 Sunday afternoon at the Salem invalid home in Elk Horn, where he had been a patient since Jan. 2. Mr. Leander had been living at the Salem home in Elk Horn for the last two years.

He was born in Als, Denmark, Sept. 29, 1871, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jorgen Leander and settled at Brayton on coming to the United States in 1888. He was married to Mary Onken March 19, 1897 and they farmed near Brayton and Marne until moving to Marne in 1913. Mrs. Leander died in May 1948. He attended the Oak Hill Lutheran church.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph McCauley of Atlantic and Mrs. Jerry Sutton of Red Oak, two sons Clarence Leander of Marne and George Leander of Fontanelle, a brother, Mr. Leander of (?), Minn, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. A daughter, Mabel, died when she was a year and a half old and a son, Harry Leander, died in September 1956. A brother, George Leander died in 1945 and several brothers and sisters living in Denmark preceded Mr. Leander in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Roland funeral home, the Rev. Henry Hansen of the Brayton.
