The Death of Mrs. Elam
A large circle of friends heard with grief the announcement of the death of Mrs. Charlotte Elam, which occurred in this town on yesterday morning, 28th inst., at about 1 o'clock. Mrs. Elam was in the 79th year of her age, and had been a pious and active member of the Methodist church for nearly 67 years, becoming a glad convert to religious truth in her early girlhood. She had reared a large family, and was the mother of Mr. W. C. Elam, well known as the late editor of the Richmond Whig and Secretary of State of Virginia; Mrs. Walter Watson, Mrs. Neill Smith and Mrs. W. H. Holland. The funeral services took place from the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Walter Watson, at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
