He and Cpl Lee Brownson were killed after an improvised explosive device detonated while they were on a foot patrol near Sangin in Helmand Province.
Aged 19, from West Yorkshire. Rfn Farmer enlisted in the army in 2008 and completed infantry training in April 2009. He was on his first operational tour of duty and impressed his comrades as a mature and capable soldier. He was described as a strong man with a kind heart. Known for his fitness, he enjoyed wrestling, boxing, running and rugby.
Rfn Farmer is survived by his parents Mark and Angela, brothers Scott and Ross, other relatives and friends.
Funeral with full military honours was held on February 5, 2010 at Wakefield Cathedral.
