Son of John Polk Clegg and Martha Boone. Married to Amanda J. Haralson.

Grad. of Georgia Medical College (1846), Forsyth, Georgia. Prominent physician res. Randolph Co., Alabama and Greenville, Georgia. Dr. James was issued a US Patent on February 8, 1876 for an evaporator on brick furnace. K.L. Haralson acted as General Agent, Cusseia, Chambers Co., Alabama. The evaporators were manufactured in Newman, Georgia and sold in several southern states.

Dr. James Clegg, a widely known citizen of Almond, died last Saturday after a three week illness at the age of 81 years. He was buried at Pleasant Hill on Sunday. Dr. Clegg was a remarkable man in many respects and was possessed of
untiring energy. He was an active member of the Methodist church. A large family of children and grandchildren are left to lament his death.
