BRAYTON WOMAN
DIES LAST NIGHT;
BORN IN ENGLAND

Mrs. Elizabeth Onken, Pioneer
Resident in Territory,
Came to America
When Girl.

Mrs. Elizabeth Onken, a native
of England, died last night at
11:35 at the family home at Bray-
ton, death resulting from compli-
cations. Mrs. Onken had been in
failing health for some time.

She was born in Buckholt, Eng-
land, Feb. 12, 1856, the daughter
of George William and Mary Hard-
wick, and came to America with
her parents when a girl. She was
married in Atlantic to William
Onken Aug. 22, 1871. Following
their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. On-
ken lived at Gates until 1888, when
they moved to a farm a mile
northwest of Brayton, residing
here until moving to the town
of Brayton in 1913. Mr. Onken
died Oct. 27, 1915.

Daughters at Bedside

Mrs. Onken is survived by six
daughters and two sons. One son
Will R. was killed June 14, 1923
at Greenfield when he was struck
by lightening. All of the daugh-
ters and Mrs. Onken's brother and
sister were at her bedside at the
time of her death. The surviving
daughters are Mrs. Mary Leander
of Brayton, Mrs. Anna Hastings
of Atlantic, Mrs. Mollie Kraack
of Cumberland, Mrs. Bertha Bell
of Des Moines, Mrs. Kathryn Brew-
er of Atlantic and Mrs. Lillian
Anderson of Brayton and the sons
are Fred of Brayton and Henry
of Greenfield. There are twenty-
three grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren.

The brother is Thomas Hard-
wick of Brayton and the sister is
Mrs. Dan Chamberlain of Oak-
field.

Funeral services will be held
Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at
the Baptist church at Brayton, the
Rev. Ross Williams of the At-
lantic Church of Christ officiat-
ing. Burial will be in Oakfield
cemetery near Brayton.
