Mary Elizabeth Gilfillan Lerch
Clarion--Mary Elizabeth Gilfillan Lerch, 78, of Star Route 68, Sligo, formerly of Rimersburg, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, in Clarion Hospital following an extended illness.
Born February 10, 1928, in Middlesex, Ohio, she was the daughter of Chelcie Leroy and Helen McCullough Rohr.
She first married Walter B. "Gif" Gilfillan on June 8, 1946, in Rimersburg; he died January 1, 1996. She then married Harold A. Lerch on October 19, 2003, in Bethel Baptist Church near Sligo; he survives.
Mrs. Lerch was a 1946 graduate of Rimersburg High School.
Mrs. Lerch also graduated from the Butler County Community College with a degree in office management and retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Butler.
She also worked as a seamstress at L&R Decorating in Clarion and also did seamstress work at her home in Rimersburg.
Mrs. Lerch was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church near Sligo and was a current member of the women's auxiliary of the Rimersburg VFW.
Also surviving are five sons, Fred A. Gilfillan and his wife, Suzie, of Parlin, N.J.; Richard B. Gilfillan and his wife, Susan, of Mount Horeb, Wis.; Martin Walter "Moss" Gilfillan and his wife, Maryann, of Rimersburg; David P. Gilfillan, of Ansonia, Conn.; Phillip Gilfillan and his wife, Michelle, of Mansfield, Md.; and one daughter, Karyn S. Gilfillan, of Juniper, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a brother, Harry Rohr, of Florida; a sister, Edith Lightner, of Slippery Rock; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Deanie Rohr, of Rimersburg and Lois "Midge" Gilfillan, of Chevy Chase, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Surviving also are two stepsons, Ronald Lerch and his wife, Barbara, and Robert Lerch, Deb, all of Sligo; five grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Mrs. Lerch was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Rohr and Edwin Rohr; and three sisters, Dorothy Paulas, Opal Fields and Kathryn Rodgers; and a niece, Barbara Wiles.
Friends were received Friday, Jun 2, 2006, in the Richard D. Hills Funeral Home with the Rev. Rob Hranicky, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church near Sligo, officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Eccles-Lesher Library, Rimersburg.
