Francis J. Suing, 73, of 2405 South Thirty-second avenue, operator of a grain elevator at Fordyce, Neb., for 20 years before coming to Omaha three years ago, died this morning at his home. He had been ill six months.
Survivors: Wife, Lillie; daughters, Frieda, Hyacinth and Etheldreda, all of Omaha; Sister Mary Odilo, Order of St. Dominic, Rosary college, River Forest, Ill.; sons, Ivo, Oscar and Gerald, all of Omaha; Odilo, Lincoln, Neb., and Bernard, Rapid City, S. FRANK J. SUING DIES AT OMAHA
Cedar county pioneer and former Fordyce man buried Monday.
Frank J. Suing, 74, prominent Cedar county pioneer until several years ago when he and his wife moved to Omaha died there Saturday following a heart attack. Funeral services were held at the Lady of Lourdes Catholic church. Interment was made at the Holy Sepulchre cemetery.
The deceased was born June 01, 1866 near St. Helena. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Suing, that migrated from Baltimore, MD, first to Iowa and then to Nebraska, arriving in Cedar county, Nebraska Territory in 1861. On May 17, 1897, Mr. Suing married Miss Lilly M. Bantz of Portland, Oreg., and Hartington.
After his marriage Mr. Suing worked as Deputy Cedar county treasurer, for several years and then moved to Fordyce. Previous to 1937, he served 25 years on the Fordyce school board. He was a member of the town board since 1916 and was Mayor at the time he moved to Omaha.
He was the first cashier of the Fordyce state bank which opened in 1906, and was Secretary and treasurer of the cooperative credit association. Previous to his departure he operated the Mullaney elevator and in his early days was a schoolteacher for many years.
Mr. Suing was of the Roman catholic faith and was a charter member of the Hartington Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by ten children, Sr. Mary O. Delia, Chicago, Ill., Sr. Mary Chrysogonus, Peoria, Ill., Ivo and Oscar of Omaha, Odilo of Lincoln, Bernard, Rapid City; Freda, Hysasinth, Ethildreda, and Gerald all of Omaha.
The deceased is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary J. Becker of St. Helena, two brothers, Joseph A. Suing of St. Helena and A. F. Suing of Hartington.
Pallbearers were his three sons Ivo, Bernard and Gerald Suing, J.F., Clarence and A. F. Suing.
Those who attended the funeral from this vicinity were Matt Dreesen, Mrs. Matt Kneifl, Mrs. Clarence Hirschman, Mrs. George Dreesen, and Mrs. A.F. Suing, and Roy Kneifl, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Suing, St. Helena, Mrs. Irene Mathers, Sioux City, and Clarence Suing of Fordyce.
Mr. Suing was considered one of the best educated men in Cedar county in the early days. He was a graduate of Notre Dame University.
